St. James Sept. 11 concert will continue despite water main break

A concert at St. James Episcopal Church commemorating the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks will continue at 5 p.m. as scheduled despite a water main break that closed a portion of Huntington and Federal streets Saturday and flooded the church's basement, according to church leaders.

The water main, which broke Saturday afternoon and cut off water service to several buildings in the area, also flooded the basement of the church.

New London fire Battalion Chief Edward Sargent said Saturday that the road near the water main break was damaged and would require repaving.

The commemorative concert at St. James, which will begin at 5 p.m., will feature an organist and vocalist performing spirituals and patriotic songs. A free will offering will be taken, with proceeds going to the Lord's Pantry food assistance program.
