    33rd Senate District debate scheduled for Thursday

    Old Lyme — The Lyme-Old Lyme High School will be the site of a debate at 7 p.m. Thursday between candidates in the state’s 33rd Senate District. The hourlong debate, free and open to the public, will feature incumbent Republican state Sen. Art Linares and his Democratic challenger, Norm Needleman, the Essex first selectman.

    The Senate district covers Clinton, Westbrook, Old Saybrook, Essex, Chester, Deep River, Lyme, Haddam, East Haddam, Colchester, Portland and East Hampton.

    The Day and the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut are co-sponsoring the debate. The League of Women Voters will provide timekeepers.

    Theday.com will stream the debate live and it will remain available on the website until Election Day.

    Green Party candidate Colin Bennett declined to participate, pointing to a scheduling conflict.
