Jazmyn Gerena sketches the scenery while she and her fellow seventh grade students from West Side Middle School spent about an hour at Eastern Point Beach in Groton, Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016.
The beach outing was part of the school's behavior rewards program that rewards good behavior instead of focusing on the consequences for bad behavior. The program also helps kids enjoy coming to school, build teamwork and creates positive relationships with teachers outside the classroom in hopes it continues in the classroom. Each grade 6-8 at the school will have some kind of activity once a month for the kids that do things right.
