Family substance abuse support group to meet Monday evenings in East Lyme

East Lyme — The East Lyme Youth Coalition, in cooperation with Project Courage, will offer a Family Substance Abuse Support Group led by Andy Buccaro, the executive director and founder of Project Courage.

The meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays beginning Nov. 7. They will take place in the Senior Center at the East Lyme Library and Community Center on Society Road in Niantic.

The group is drop in, open to the public and free of charge.

Project Courage provides specialized addiction treatment for adolescents and young adults that is client-centered and addresses obstacles that have plagued the addiction treatment industry, according to a news release.

The East Lyme Youth Coalition is seeking donations to continue the support group, the release states. Donations could be made in honor or memory of a loved one who is struggling with or who has struggled with substance abuse, or a personal testament to sobriety. As this is a community effort, donations are encouraged to provide this support mechanism to families in the region.

Additional resources are available on the East Lyme Public Schools' website, eastlymeschools.org, under "Quick Links," Mental Health and Substance Abuse (http://www.eastlymeschools.org/page.cfm?p=4027).
