    Q Bridge completion noted

The so-called Q Bridge in New Haven has been declared substantially complete.

The new 10-lane Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge was on schedule and $200 million under budget, according to officials who attended a ceremony Thursday to note the project's completion.

The project included additional highway lanes and the complete reconstruction of a major interchange involving I-95, I-91 and Route 34. It also includes enhancements to public transit between Long Wharf Drive and Cedar Street.

“The completion of this major transportation project — one of the biggest our state has ever undertaken — will result in improved commutes for thousands of Connecticut residents in the region who depend on it for their economic well-being as part of their day-to-day lives,” Gov. Dannel Malloy said in a statement issued Thursday by the governor's office.

The bridge accommodates over 140,000 vehicles a day — more than three times the 40,000 vehicles a day its predecessor was designed to carry.
