Input sought on proposed changes for recreational flounder, scup, black sea bass fishery

Old Lyme — The Marine Fisheries Division of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will host a public hearing on Jan. 10 on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's proposed changes to the management plan for the recreational summer flounder, scup and black sea bass fishery.

The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at DEEP Marine Headquarters, 333 Ferry Road. The proposed changes would address the need for reductions in the recreational harvest of summer flounder, scup and black sea bass throughout New England and the mid-Atlantic, the commission said in a news release. The commission is seeking to achieve a 30 percent reduction in the harvest in response to the 2016 stock assessment that found lower population levels than previously projected.
