Simm resigns from Stonington Conservation Commission after 31 years

Stonington — First Selectmen Rob Simmons announced at Wednesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting that longtime Conservation Commission Chairman Stanton Simm has resigned.

Simm has served on the commission for 31 years and was extremely active in land preservation efforts in town.

“Over the past 31 years, he has made significant contributions to saving property for future generations," Simmons said.

Simmons said Simm announced his retirement at the commission’s Nov. 28 meeting. Simmons said he recently learned of the resignation by email. He told selectmen on Wednesday that the town will send Simm a letter congratulating him on his distinguished service to the town.

Simm could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Minutes of the Conservation Commission’s Nov. 28 meeting show that, at the end of the meeting, Simm “stated that after 31 years he had decided that this will be his last Conservation Commission meeting. He will resign from the commission after tending to the above noted tasks.”

No reason was given for his decision to resign.
