Mohegan Sun had healthy slots revenue in December
Mohegan — For Mohegan Sun, 2016 ended on a positive note.
Just how positive became known Tuesday, when the casino released a report on its December slot-machine revenues, which were up 6 percent over the same month in 2015.
The casino reported that it “won,” or kept, $50.1 million in wagers after paying out prizes. It was the first December since 2012 that the casino’s slots win broke the $50 million mark.
The calendar helped. In 2016, New Year’s Eve fell on the fifth Saturday of December. There were four Sundays in the month. The previous December had four Saturdays and four Sundays. Weekend days generate a good portion of the casino's business.
Mohegan Sun sent $12.5 million of its slots win last month to the state.
Earlier, Foxwoods Resort Casino reported that its December slots win of $35.3 million was down 6.4 percent. It remitted $9.4 million to the state.
In December, Mohegan Sun captured 58.7 percent of the Connecticut slots market to Foxwoods’ 41.3 percent.
