Mayor to reaffirm New London's commitment to immigrants, refugees

New London — Mayor Michael Passero has called for a gathering of faith and civic community leaders Thursday to reaffirm the city’s commitment to immigrants and refugees.

The meeting, which is open to the public, comes in the wake of President Donald Trump’s temporary ban of immigrants from seven countries.

“This administration has and will continue to respect the constitutional rights of all our residents regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion or immigration status,” Passero said. “We are all immigrants, and as such we must respect each other and all those who desire to be members of our great community."

The gathering will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday in the lobby of City Hall, 181 State St.
