    Westerly Hospital offers spring educational series

    Westerly — The Westerly Hospital will kick off its Spring Wednesday Wellness series with a program titled “Women’s Heart Health” at 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 15, in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s Heart Month.

    It will be led by cardiologist Dr. Rita Peter-Faherty, who will discuss how heart disease is different in women and men.

    The series will feature six free programs covering a variety of health topics. All programs will meet at the hospital’s Henry J. Nardone Conference Center and will be presented by physicians and staff. Admission is free, but seating is limited. To reserve a seat for any of the programs, call (401) 348-2300.

    Other programs in the series will be:

    • 5 p.m. Feb. 22, “Sleep Apnea and Other Sleep Disorders,” led by Dr. Amit Khanna, medical director of the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Sleep Center

    • 5 p.m. March 1, “Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,” led by hand surgeon Dr. Sepehr Sajjad. Dr. Sajjad will discuss carpal tunnel syndrome and other hand-related conditions, as well as treatment options.

    • 5 p.m. March 15, “Hard to Heal Wounds and Diabetes,” led by Dr. Kitima Boonvishudi, medical director at the L+M Wound + Hyperbaric Center, and advance practice registered nurse Bridget Mejza.

    • 5 p.m. March 29, “Early Detection: Screening for Oral, Head and Neck Cancer,” led by Dr. David Cameron and dentist Dr. Dante Gulino. Free screenings for oral, head and neck cancer will be offered. Screenings are by appointment only and space is limited.     • 4:30 p.m. April 5, “Alzheimer’s Disease + Our Aging Mind,” led by neurologist Dr. Maria Moro-de-Casillas. She will discuss symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options.
