Thames River Heritage Park seeks summer interns

The Thames River Heritage Park Foundation, the nonprofit organization that operates the Groton-New London water taxi, is accepting applications for its summer internship program.

The park includes sites of national and historical significance in New London and the City and Town of Groton, including Fort Griswold Battlefield and State Park and the Avery-Copp House in Groton, Fort Trumbull State Park and the Hempsted Houses in New London and more than a dozen others.

“Our summer interns will be our park ambassadors, interacting with visitors and local residents as they navigate this new experience,” Amy Perry, interim executive director, said in a news release .

Interns will learn firsthand about tourism marketing and nonprofit collaboration. Working at the three water taxi landings in Groton and New London, the interns will provide information about partner heritage sites within the park, help with directions, take survey information, create social media content and assist with marketing and advertising.

The positions require self-starters with excellent people skills, good verbal communications skills, as well as the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must enjoy being outdoors and active. An interest in American history is a plus. Training will be provided.

The positions are two to three days per week, Friday through Sunday, beginning in mid-May and continuing through mid-September. The internships are unpaid; six positions are available.
