First Open House for SUBASE New London Joint Land Use Study to take place March 29

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments, SUBASE New London, City of Groton, Town of Groton, Ledyard, New London, Montville and Waterford are seeking public comments on a Joint Land Use Study.

A Joint Land Use Study is a cooperative planning process that promotes compatibility between community development and the Navy's missions, while minimizing impacts of the Navy's operations on adjacent communities and ecosystems. The final product will include measures to support the economy, environment and community, while safeguarding the military mission.

The public is invited to the first open house for the study at either 2 to 3:30 p.m. or 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Groton Public Library, 52 Newton Road, Groton.

Both meetings will include a presentation and an open house with displays. Team members will be available for questions, and there will be opportunities to share comments. The project consultant will report on findings and ask for feedback on an initial list of compatibility issues and shared interest between the Navy and local municipalities. The issues identified in this stage will be analyzed through early summer.

Additionally, an online survey to collect feedback is available through Wednesday, April 12, at http://svy.mk/2nHfnlk.

There will be two more open houses later in the process. Comments will be welcome throughout the approximately yearlong effort.

More information on the project or upcoming events is available at www.subasenljlus.com. People also can sign up to receive project updates by email.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
