Alternative energy is topic of Avery Point program

Groton — A panel discussion titled, “Alternative Energy: Looking Towards Connecticut’s Future” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the Academic Building at the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point campus.

Panelists will be Stan White of Stanley White Engineering, an offshore wind company, and Brian Fitzgerald of Greenskies Renewable Energy, a solar company. Moderator will be W. Frank Bohlen of the UConn Marine Sciences Department.

The discussion will focus on Connecticut’s policy that requires power companies to obtain 27 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2020, with 20 percent of that coming from Class I renewables (solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower, etc.) Speakers will address the issue from an engineering and scientific point of view, offering their ideas on what the future holds for Connecticut’s power generating portfolio.

Admission is free. The program is part of the 2017 Coastal Perspective lecture series.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
