Westerly Land Trust announces acquisition of new parcel

The Westerly Land Trust announced Monday that is has expanded its Sunnyacres Preserve by purchasing four acres of land on Post Road in Westerly from Carolyn Basham.

The trust said new parcel “is comprised of forest and wooded wetland” that stretches north from Route 1 to the stream that forms the southern boundary of the 18.5-acre Sunnyacres Preserve, which is comprised of grassland and wet woodlands.

The trust said it is grateful to the Forrest and Francis Lattner Foundation and the Lattner Family Foundation for contributions that made the purchase possible.

The trust also thanked Basham “for her patience through the long duration of this project and for her willingness to make the property available below market value to enable protection of this land."

The land trust now owns, protects and manages approximately 1,592 acres of land in Westerly and seven urban properties in downtown Westerly which are being renovated.
