Mystic Whaler, now 50, returns to City Pier in New London Monday
New London -- The Mystic Whaler, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is scheduled to arrive at City Pier on Monday.
The 110-foot vessel, which is a reproduction of a 19th-century coastal schooner, is returning from the Hudson River where it hosted more than 3,000 New York students on environmental education cruises this spring.
It marked the 22nd year that the schooner has worked with the Clearwater’s Sailing Classroom Program to teach students about the river natural wonders and cultural significance.
“We love working with the kids during the Clearwater season. For many of them, it’s their first time being on the water and seeing what’s below the surface. Now, we’re excited to kick off our summer season. It’s so good to be home in New London,” said longtime Capt. John Eginton, in a press release announcing the schooner’s return.
The boat offers daily excursions, overnight vacations, and on the water viewing of the upcoming Sailfest fireworks display, all leaving from City Pier. It can accommodate up to 52 people for day sails and 34 on overnight trips.
