    Preston Republicans nominate candidates

Preston — The Republican Town Committee unanimously endorsed 22-year incumbent First Selectman Robert Congdon for a 12th term in office, along with five-term incumbent Selectman Michael Sinko at a caucus Thursday.

Congdon, 68, initially had planned to retire this fall, but no other candidates came forward, so Congdon agreed to run for another term. Sinko has been Congdon's running mate since 2007. Longtime Town Clerk/Tax Collector Hattie Wucik and Treasurer Susan Nylen also were endorsed unanimously for their positions.

For Board of Finance, the town committee endorsed Stacey Becker and Dan Duprey for two available six-year terms and Edward Gauthier for a two-year term, and Lennie Spencer for an alternate position on the finance board.

Incumbent Board of Education member Charles Raymond was nominated for re-election and John Moulson also was nominated for Board of Education.

The town committee nominated several other candidates for boards and commissions, but have positions available for an alternate to the Board of Finance and an alternate to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
