USS Vermont class joins the fleet
Groton — Ninety-three sailors of "Class 17080," USS Vermont (SSN-792), graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School on Jan. 20.
SN Ahmed Gamilaros Yap was class honor graduate.
Seaman Joseph Listopad received the Navy Core Values Award for best exemplifying the standards and expectations of a U.S. Navy sailor.
Seaman Apprentice Djuwon Baskins was recipient of the Submarine Heritage Award.
Fireman Apprentice Austin Broussard, Seaman Treavor Flannigan, Seaman Tyler Jones, Seaman Apprentice Saul Rodriguez, Seaman Recruit Seth Shelton, Seaman Brandon McCormick, Seaman Apprentice Anthony Ziober, and Seaman Joseph Guarigila joined Fire Control Technician 2nd Class April Harris as graduates with distinction.
Basic Enlisted Submarine School is a six-week introduction to the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered submarines. In preparation for an assignment, sailors receive instruction on shipboard organization, submarine safety and escape procedures.
