Streaming tip: The End of the F***ing World

The story and premise behind one of Netflix’s newest series, “The End of the F***ing World,” is a strangely endearing story about two 17-year-olds, James and Alyssa, who run away together and raise havoc along the way. The twist to all this (among many) is that James, a self-diagnosed psychopath, is plotting to murder the unsuspecting Alyssa, who simultaneously has a crush on him. The show is certainly hinged around some very dark and bizarre humor, which I certainly enjoyed because that’s just me for ya, but it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Besides the humor, I loved the show’s general aesthetic, which is very nostalgic and American though set in modern-day England, and its many nods to some of the greatest shows and films ever made. Think of it like this: it’s a dark “Moonrise Kingdom” tied together with influences of “Twin Peaks” and “Pulp Fiction,” among other film classics — seriously a dream for any cinephile.
