Vermont police say vehicle stop yields big heroin haul
ROCKINGHAM, Vt. — Vermont state police say they seized nearly 1,000 bags of heroin after stopping a vehicle for speeding on Interstate 91.
Authorities say they found 980 bags of heroin, 10 grams of raw heroin and 600 empty glassine bags in a hidden compartment in the trunk of the car they stopped in Rockingham at about 10 p.m. Saturday. They say they also found a bag of PCP stashed in a half-full soda can.
Police charged Darnell Baxter and Maria Garcia — both 35 and residents of Hartford, Connecticut — with drug trafficking. Baxter is being held on $50,000 bail and Garcia on $40,000 bail.
It was not immediately known whether they are represented by lawyers.
