Selectmen make roadway changes in East Lyme

East Lyme - The Board of Selectmen voted Wednesday to accept a realigned portion of Mostowy Road as a town road and discontinue another portion of the roadway.

The improvements to Mostowy Road are intended to provide a safer entrance and exit with Route 161.

The selectmen also accepted the paved roads of Darrow's Court and Darrow's Ridge Road in the Darrow's Ridge subdivision.

The discontinuance of the portion of Mostowy Road will now require residents' approval at a town meeting slated for 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at Town Hall. The other items only needed approval from the selectmen.

The town and the developers of Niantic Real Estate and New England National, which are involved in long-standing litigation against the town, signed a memorandum of understanding this summer to make the roadway improvements.

The memorandum called for the developers to convey the roads to the town. The town is using bond funds from the subdivision to pave Darrow's Ridge Road and Darrow's Court and is also paying for the realignment of Mostowy Road, according to the memorandum.
