State police spokesman Vance to be reassigned
Lt. J. Paul Vance, the longtime spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, is being reassigned as a supervisor in the department’s traffic division.
Vance will start in his new position as head of the Central Traffic Unit on or about March 20.
State Police Col. Brian Meraviglia, responding to questions by email, said Vance’s move was not a disciplinary issue. Vance “has served us well for many years” in the Public Information Office, Meraviglia said. “We are filling some critical positions in the agency and his skill sets are perfect for this new assignment.”
It is common to move lieutenants and captains every two years or so, he said.
Meraviglia said possible replacements for Vance have been identified and an announcement will come in the near future.
Vance started as a state police trooper in 1974 and was a longtime resident trooper in Prospect. He also has served as a dog handler, tactical team member, major crime detective and police academy instructor.
He has been head of the department’s public information office since the late 1990s.
Vance earns an annual salary of $126,734, according to state records. He was not immediately available for comment.
