New London women charged after police chase on Colman Street

New London – Police arrested a New London woman Wednesday who they say was under the influence when she struck another vehicle and a snowbank before leading police on a chase across the city.

A witness called 911 at 6:03 p.m. to report a 2003 Ford Explorer colliding with another vehicle on Jefferson Avenue at Elm Street. The vehicle then allegedly struck a snowbank near Redden Avenue. Police caught up with the SUV on Colman Street.

Police said the driver, later identified as 18-year-old Tiana Colon, refused to stop for police who pursued her south on Colman Street at speeds reaching 35 to 40 mph. Colon’s vehicle ended up disabled in a snowbank off Bank Street at the intersection of Colman Street.

In the vehicle, police said they found numerous narcotics, an electronic stun gun and a knife.

Colon, of 178 Ledyard St. in New London, and her passenger, 27-year-old Jessica Lugo, of no certain address, both were charged.

Colon faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, engaging an officer in pursuit, operating a motor vehicle without a license, evading responsibility, misuse of registration, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of narcotics. She was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Lugo was charged with possession of narcotics. She was held in lieu of a $7,500 bond.

Police said no injuries were reported during the incident.

New London police apprehend two females, one of which had been driving a gray Ford Explorer, after a chase and crash Wednesday at the intersection of Bank and Colman streets. Officers said the Explorer struck at least one vehicle and evaded police cruisers.
