Bank Street in New London reopened after rollover

New London firefighters extricate the driver of a pickup truck involved in a two car accident that went through a fence and over a stone wall at 991 Bank Street in New London Tuesday afternoon March 24, 2015. The driver and a second patient from the other car involved were both transported to the L+M Hospital.

New London – A section of Bank Street was closed for about an hour on Tuesday after a pickup truck crashed through a fence and traveled down an embankment.

The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the area of 991 Bank St. A Ford Ranger pickup truck was involved in a collision with a Volvo. The truck went through a fence and off a 3-foot dropoff, coming to a rest on its side.

New London firefighters cut through the front windshield of the truck to pull the elderly driver out.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Witnesses say the crash occurred after the truck had pulled out of a barber shop at 992 Bank St.

Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
