New London swears in two new police recruits
New London – Two newly hired police recruits were sworn in on Wednesday by Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio.
Ashley James and Jorden Salas are slated to start classes at the state police academy on Thursday. After 23 weeks at the academy, the recruits must complete 12 to 16 weeks of field training before they are assigned to a patrol shift.
“I congratulate Ms. James and Mr. Salas,” Finizio said in a news statement. “This was a highly competitive selection process, and I am confident that they will serve New London well.”
Salas, who is bilingual, graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in criminology. He participated in the Judicial Branch Internship Program in New London in 2014. He is a resident of Vernon.
James was born in New London and is a graduate of Stonington High School. She studied business at Three Rivers Community College and allied health science at the University of Connecticut. She is a resident of Groton.
“Both recruits impressed me with their personal drive and commitment to public service,” Acting Police Chief Pete Reichard said in a statement.
The new hires come on the heels of the graduation of two other recruits who currently are field training.
