Car, school bus crash in Old Lyme under investigation
Old Lyme — State police said they are continuing to investigate a Friday afternoon collision between a school bus and a Honda Civic that caused injures that were not life-threatening to four schoolchildren.
The crash, reported at 3:13 p.m. at Route 156 and Mile Creek Road, involved an M&J Bus Co. school bus driven by Sonia J. Alers-Gonsalves, 49, of 130 Boston Post Road, East Lyme, and a Honda Civic driven by Trevar J. Sabo, 27, of 105 Mile Creek Road, Old Lyme.
All six of the children on the school bus were treated at the scene by emergency responders from Old Lyme, East Lyme and Essex, according to a state police news release. Four of the children were taken by ambulance for further treatment of what first responders characterized as injuries that were not life-threatening. Three of the children were taken to the Shoreline Clinic in Westbrook and the fourth was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Their conditions were unavailable Saturday morning.
The bus driver, who was wearing a lap belt, suffered "a possible injury" according to the news release. Sabo, who was wearing a shoulder and lap belt and whose front air bag deployed, had no apparent injuries. The bus and car were towed from the scene. School buses typically do not have seat belts for passengers.
