Dog rescued from Gales Ferry house fire
Gales Ferry — A Gales Ferry firefighter rescued a dog from a burning home Sunday afternoon.
Gales Ferry Fire Chief Tony Saccone said a neighbor reported the 7 Summit Drive fire around 2:30 p.m. and firefighters from four local departments had it under control about half an hour later.
He said none of the four occupants were home and that the neighbor who called alerted firefighters that a dog was inside.
The neighbor temporarily took the dog into her home and the American Red Cross helped find the family a place to stay for the night, Saccone said.
Saccone said the fire, which is believed to have started in the living room area, caused heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the house.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
