Mystic, Norwich firefighters among fire academy grads
Windsor Locks — A new class of firefighter recruits graduates Thursday from the Connecticut Fire Academy and the class includes firefighters headed to departments in Mystic and Norwich.
The members of Recruit Class No. 55 represents 18 career and volunteer fire departments from across the state. Graduates have completed a 14-week residential-based training program that started on Feb. 10.
Along with basic firefighting skills, the firefighters are trained in hazardous materials mitigation, weapons of mass destruction preparedness, confined space rescue, CPR, using defibrillators and technical rescue.
Graduates will be nationally certified to the levels of Firefighter I and Firefighter II, in addition to many being awarded a variety of certificates for specialized training.
The graduation ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. at the CREC Public Safety Academy, 1617 King St., Enfield.
The graduating class roster consists of firefighters representing the following communities: Allingtown/West Haven, Bristol, East Hartford, Ellington, Essex, Manchester, Milford, Mystic, Naugatuck, North Branford, Norwich, Plainville, Portland, Wallingford, Westport, Willimantic and the UConn Health Center.
