    State police arrest 57 people on drunken driving charges during holiday weekend

    Connecticut State Police have arrested 57 people on drunken driving charges during the Memorial Day weekend, according to spokesman Sgt. Shane Hassett.

    During the enforcement period, which ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, state police had issued 1,254 speeding tickets, 1,454 seat belt violations and 549 hazardous moving violations.

    Police also responded to 285 accidents, 49 of which had reported injuries and two with reported fatalities.
