Ledyard — A North Stonington man was killed early Wednesday morning when the car he was driving veered off Lambtown Road and struck a tree, state police said.

Norman L. Carr, 37, of 33 Pinecrest Road was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police report. Carr was alone in his car, and no other vehicle was involved.

State and town police were called to the scene of the crash at around 4:30 a.m. It occurred just west of the residential driveway at 220 Lambtown Road, police said.

Carr was traveling west when his car, a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, veered off the opposite side of the road and struck a tree on the shoulder of the roadway, according to the report.

Ledyard police are investigating.
