Groton's July 4th parade to be held Saturday

Drivers can expect traffic delays and road closures Saturday morning in the area of Poquonnock Plains during Groton Town’s annual July 4th parade.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Poquonnock Plains Park and travels north on U.S. Route 1 toward the Groton Shopping Plaza. This year’s theme is “The American Dream.” Amby Burfoot, an Olympian, author, and Boston Marathon champion, will serve as grand marshal.

Groton Town Police said drivers should prepare for road closures from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., with access to and from the Midway Oval section of town restricted to emergency vehicles.

Last year’s parade was canceled due to weather. For updates on parade-related weather changes, call (860) 441-6791.

Participating groups in this year’s parade include floats, marchers, fire departments and antique vehicles.
