State police in Westbrook announce 'aggressive' DUI enforcement

State police at Troop F in Westbrook said they began conducting an aggressive drunken driving enforcement campaign on Thursday and will continue strict enforcement on area roadways through Labor Day.

Troop commander Lt. Arthur Goodale said that in addition to DUI enforcement, troopers would be on the lookout for drivers violating seatbelt, distracted driving and other motor vehicle laws.

Troopers will be patrolling throughout the Troop F area in marked and unmarked cruisers.

"Excessive speed, intoxicated drivers, distracted drivers and the lack of seat belt usage needlessly claim the lives of motorists on Connecticut roadways every year," said a press prelease from the troop. "We will continue to utilize all of the resources at our disposal to identify those operators who violate these laws and will take strict enforcement action against them."
