No injuries in Ledyard house fire
Ledyard — No one was injured when a house caught fire early Sunday morning at 9 Pennywise Lane in the Highlands subdivision.
According to a fire department report, the fire appeared to start in a bedroom and extend into the attic. The fire was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday and was quickly contained, with most of the damage occurring in the bedroom.
"The first arriving fire officer found heavy fire blowing out of the bedroom window," a fire department press release said. "The sole occupant of the home had been alerted by smoke detectors and was able to exit the residence uninjured."
According to appraisal records online, the home is a raised ranch owned by Gloria I. Legaspi. Firefighters said the homeowner was checked on the scene for smoke inhalation by Ledyard Ambulance personnel.
Also responding to the fire were the Gales Ferry Fire Company, Old Mystic Fire Department's FAST team and the Mashantucket Fire Department.
The town Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
