New London man accused of firing gun into the air to ward off teens
New London — A New London man was arrested Friday morning after being accused of firing his gun into the air to ward off juveniles who were trespassing on his property at 29 Cape Ann Court.
Daniel Encarcion was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree breach of peace and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Police said at 1:11 a.m. they received a 911 call from a resident at 29 Cape Ann Court reporting that juveniles were on the property.
A second 911 call was received at 1:14 a.m. from one of the juveniles who said that a man fired a gun at them as they were riding their bicycles by his house.
Police said Encarcion said he saw two male juveniles on his trailered boat while another one was standing beside it.
The juveniles were attempting to steal a fire extinguisher when Encarcion went outside holding a pistol, police said.
Two juveniles fled on foot while one remained at the scene. Police said Encarcion fired into the air.
Police said no one was injured and there was no property damage.
The three juveniles, ages 13, 14 and 16, were charged with third-degree criminal trespass and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.
Police said Encarcion was being held on a $10,000 bond.
