New London — Police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old woman whose body was discovered Friday morning behind the area of the Lost Soul Tattoo shop and the Roadhouse bar on Bank Street.

The family of Emily Eshenfelder of Quaker Hill confirmed Friday afternoon that she is the woman who was found around 8 a.m.

Eshenfelder was the manager of the family-owned business Captain Scott's Lobster Dock and co-owner of Captain Scott's Lobster Truck, according to her obituary.

The family said they are planning a celebration of her life through Byles Memorial Home, New London, and details would be announced when arrangements are completed.

In the meantime, they are asking that people not send flowers.

On Monday morning, police used yellow tape to block entry into the bar, which was closed at the time. Police also used yellow tape to cordon off the rear of the bar and the tattoo shop.

Police were first called to the rear of 36 Bank St. at about 8 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive female. Medical personnel pronounced Eshenfelder deceased at the scene.

She would have turned 27 on Saturday.

Police could be seen examining a deck that is adjacent to the bar's main patio during their investigation. It appeared that the railing was broken, but it was unclear if the rail already had been broken before the incident.

While police said it looks to be a tragic accident that led to Eshenfelder's death, they are working with the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to make a final determination on the cause of death. An autopsy is planned for Saturday.

Anyone with information concerning Eshenfelder's whereabouts or who had contact with her late Thursday or early Friday is asked to contact New London police at (860) 447-5269 or via the anonymous Tip411 system.

Anyone with video of the area is asked to contact the police department's investigative division.
