    Victim in Tuesday's fatal boat crash identified as Stonington man

    Stonington — A Stonington man was killed Tuesday morning when two boats collided in the waters off of Watch Hill.

    An autopsy on 81-year-old Walter Krupinski, a longtime commercial fisherman, was being performed today, according to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner.

    Krupinski's 25-foot boat had capsized in Fishers Island Sound after a 60-foot Viking yacht allegedly ran over it, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.

    The accident was reported to the Coast Guard at 10:18 a.m. Tuesday.

    The Coast Guard Station New London, Westerly Fire Department, New York State Police Marine Unit from Fisher's Island and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection were among the rescue crews that responded to the scene.

    The Rhode Island environmental police are investigating the accident. No further information is available.
