Groton woman charged with food stamp fraud

Montville — A Groton woman was arrested last Tuesday on charges that she defrauded the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
State police charged Brandy Simonds, 26, of 43 Merlino Drive, with public assistance fraud, first-degree larceny and second-degree false statement. Police said Simonds collected $19,116 in SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to receive.
Simonds was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court Oct. 20.
