Police find 8 grams of crack in New London apartment, arrest city man
New London — Police arrested a local man Monday morning after they said a months-long investigation led them to the discovery of 8 grams of crack cocaine in a Hope Street basement.
Darby Brown Jr., 57, of the basement apartment at 26 Hope St., was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, operating a drug factory and risk of injury to a minor.
According to police, members of the New London Police's Vice and Intelligence Section and Patrol Division as well as members of the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force executed a narcotics-related search warrant at Brown's apartment around 10:20 a.m.
Police said they found more than 8 grams of packaged crack cocaine, $795 and "numerous" pieces of drug paraphernalia, including scales, plastic bags, cutting agents and strainers.
