Old Saybrook — Police arrested three people Thursday on charges that they fraudulently obtained the credit card information of an elderly woman from Clinton and attempted to purchase more than $1,000 in cellphones.

Police said they responded to the AT&T store on Main Street for a report of a suspicious woman customer.

Police were able to quickly determine that the customer, identified as Latonya Roberts, had stolen the identity of a woman in her 80s and was trying to buy cellphones valued at more than $1,200.

Roberts, 42, of Bridgeport, was found with 11 fraudulent Connecticut and Pennsylvania driver's licenses in different names and two fake credit cards, police said.

Roberts was charged with 11 counts of second-degree forgery, two counts of credit card forgery, criminal impersonation, second-degree identity theft, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and attempt to commit third-degree larceny.

Police said a male accomplice, identified as 31-year-old Francisco Zambrano, was acting as a lookout but fled when police arrived. He was found a short time later at the train station, where he purchased a ticket to New Haven. He was found in possession of six fraudulent Connecticut and Pennsylvania driver's licenses in different names and had two outstanding warrants for his arrest from other police departments.

Zambrano is wanted in North Haven for illegal use of a credit cards and West Haven police have a warrant that will charge him with failure to appear in court, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and violation of probation.

Old Saybrook police charged Zambrano with conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and six counts of second-degree forgery.

Police also arrested Esmaylin Delacruz, 28, of Milford, who police said was in a nearby vehicle, waiting for Roberts and Zambrano to return.

He was found in possession of 14 fraudulent Connecticut and Pennsylvania driver's licenses in different names. He also had more than $1,200 in cellphones purchased at a different AT&T store.

Police said he was in possession of an illegal credit card embosser, which is used to put names on credit cards.

    Delacruz posted a $100,000 bond.

Roberts and Zambrano are being held on bond, pending their arraignment today in Middletown Superior Court.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
