Plainfield police investigate inappropriate video involving young people

Plainfield — Police are investigating an incident concerning a video that may contain inappropriate content depending on the age and knowledge of the participants shown in the video.

Police said this incident was discovered when the school administration began investigating a separate incident involving the varsity football team.

The football team on Tuesday was notified that it would have to forfeit Friday's game against Waterford High School when it was discovered some members of the team allegedly engaged in inappropriate cyber activity using a cellphone group chat app.

The group chat occurred on the cellphone app "WhatsApp" and allegedly included inappropriate pictures of underage girls and team members as well as explicit videos.

Police said they were initially contacted by school officials on Tuesday about the "WhatsApp" incident but because of the lack of information as to the exact content and the lack of persons coming forward with information, police did not start an investigation and only offered guidance to the administration.

But police on Thursday met again with the superintendent of schools and the high school principal and learned of another incident that police are investigating.

Police said because of the unknown ages of the participants, no further information pertaining to the investigation will be released.
