Waterford — A local man turned himself in on a warrant this morning that alleges he sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl.

Gary Elston, 64, of 51 Devonshire Drive was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. 

Police said an investigation into the alleged sexual assaults began on Oct. 1. As a result of the investigation, police said they obtained a warrant for Elston's arrest.

Police did not provide further information.

Elston was being held on a $300,000 bond, pending his arraignment Tuesday in New London Superior Court.
