Out-of-state threat prompts lockdown of Plainfield schools

Plainfield — The high school and elementary school were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a threat was directed to a Plainfield high school, which turned out to be in another state, police said.

About 8:30 a.m. the Plainfield Police Department received a call from the Vernon Police Department, reporting a threat directed at Plainfield High School.

Plainfield police subsequently received a copy of a detailed social media posting, indicating that a person was going to open fire and set pipe bombs throughout the high school.

Officers immediately were stationed at all schools and put the high school and the Shepard Hill Elementary School on lockdown.

With the assistance of the South Windsor and Vernon police departments, it was determined that the threat allegedly was reposted by a resident in South Windsor, prompting multiple agencies to contact Plainfield police.

Police said they confirmed with the FBI that the threats were targeted to schools in Plainfield, Ind., and Danville, Ind.

The lockdown was then lifted at the high school and elementary school, police said.

South Windsor police are investigating the repost pertaining to the high school in Indiana.

Police said it appears that the poster of the threat did not make any threats himself.
