State police to be on lookout for Super Bowl revelers
State police will be on alert for impaired drivers Sunday when many state residents are expected to gather to watch the Super Bowl.
“The busy holiday season is past, but this game is an ‘unofficial’ holiday in the U.S. We urge all Connecticut residents to proceed with caution as they celebrate with friends and family,” Col. Brian Meraviglia said in a statement.
Troopers will be attentive to all roads and highways for drivers operating impaired before and after the game, which starts at 6:30 p.m., and will enforce all motor vehicle laws, state police said.
During Super Bowl Sunday last year, troopers arrested 12 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
They issued 122 tickets for speeding and 301 tickets for hazardous moving violations, including following too close, distracted driving and using a cellphone while driving.
In Connecticut, betting pools are legal as long as all money collected from participants is paid out in winnings. Pool organizers may not keep a percentage of the money they collect.
No betting pools of any kind can be run in an establishment that sells alcohol.
