Chase leads Plainfield police through back roads, cornfield

Plainfield — Police pursued a man driving a Chevy Silverado at a high speed through a cornfield and several back roads before a brief struggle ended in his arrest.

Kevin Shaw, 30, of 916 North Main St., Danielson, was charged with interfering with a police officer, engaging an officer in a pursuit, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, drinking while driving, reckless driving, failure to maintain proper lane and failure to give proper turn signal after the pursuit.

Shaw had been located by police behind United Services, located at 303 Putnam Road in Wauregan, during a well-being check for an unidentified male earlier that day.

The pursuit continued "on numerous back roads through the village of Wauregan," before leading toward the area of Black Hill Road.

A dispatcher with Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications, which had been in contact with Shaw earlier that day, was able to persuade Shaw to pull over.

However, Shaw declined to show his hand or exit the vehicle, leading to the struggle with officers before his arrest.

Shaw was subsequently transported to The William W. Backus Hospital for an emergency medical evaluation and issued a $10,000 bond.
