Ledyard — A man who refused to leave a house on Stonybrook Road Saturday after a domestic incident faces multiple charges.

Christopher Mims, 32, was charged with first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and second-degree threatening after he threatened to attempt "suicide-by-cop” and later surrendered Saturday evening.

Police were called to the house at about 3:30 p.m. by a woman who had escaped and told officers Mims was “unstable and possibly suicidal,” Ledyard police said in a news release Sunday.

A state police negotiator was called to the scene. Officers from the Montville and Norwich police departments also responded.

Lt. Kenneth R. Creutz said the Ledyard department issued two reverse-911 messages to nearby residents asking them to stay inside during the incident.

Mims, who had been living at the Stonybrook Road residence, came out of the house about 9:30 p.m. after several hours of on-and-off communication with police.

He was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, police said.

Mims is being held on $750,000 bail and is scheduled to appear Monday in New London Superior Court.
