Montville man to appear in court on sexual assault charges

A 36-year-old Uncasville man accused of having illegal sexual contact in October 2015 with a 15-year-old area boy he met online will make his first appearance Wednesday in the New London court where major crimes are tried.

State police charged Luther Hoffman of 92 Depot Road last month with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He posted a $100,000 bond following his arrest and retained attorney Steven Tomeo of Norwich, according to court records.

The alleged victim, during an interview with his mother present, told detectives at Troop E that he had made contact with five adult men on different dates after advertising on websites such as KIK, Grinder and Skype, that he was seeking sexual encounters. The teen said he used his smartphone to contact the men and disclosed his true age.

He said that after making contact with Huffman, who identified himself as Kelin Reij, the two made arrangements to meet at the Regal Cinemas in Waterford. Huffman allegedly took the teen to his home, where they watched pornographic videos and performed sexual acts on each other. The teen said Huffman's husband came into the bedroom at one point and left after saying he didn't realize Huffman had company. He said Huffman drove him back to the movie theater and his parents were unaware he had left to meet with a man.

Confronted by police, Huffman said the teen had described himself as a student actor at Connecticut College. He said he believed the teen was 18 and that he did not ask him for identification.
