New London — Police arrested a 19-year-old city man Thursday on charges related to an incident in October in which a stray bullet narrowly missed an innocent bystander.

Donnie R. Moore Jr., who is in custody for an unrelated arrest, faces charges of possession of a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Police said his arrest was the result of a lengthy investigation into an Oct. 30 shooting in the vicinity of Ashcraft Road and Cape Ann Court.

Police said they received numerous 911 calls shortly before 2 a.m. from people reporting multiple gunshots in the area.

When police arrived at the scene, they found shell casings and several bullet fragments on the roadway.

Police said Moore had fired a bullet that went astray and narrowly missed a person who was standing in his bedroom.

The stray bullet went through the man’s beroom window and into a bedroom closet, police said.

With a bond set at $25,000, Moore remains in the custody of the Department of Correction.

In November, Moore, who listed his address as 145 Crystal Ave., was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit after police said he was found in possession of a .22-caliber pistol without a permit.

In January, Moore was charged by New London police with second-degree harassment and second-degree threatening.

He has pleaded not guilty to the previous charges.
