New London man charged with negligent homicide after fatal accident in Bozrah
A New London man has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle after a collision in Bozrah in October left a motorcyclist from South Carolina dead.
Olanrewaju Adekoya, 37, of 27½ Willetts Ave. was charged May 17 with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failure to give right of way during a left turn.
Adekoya turned himself in at Troop K in Colchester.
John Wood, 24, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died at the scene of the crash on Bozrah Road after his motorcycle hit Adekoya’s van on Oct. 30.
Wood was found 160 feet from his motorcycle.
According to an arrest warrant application, Adekoya said in a statement that he was turning left into the driveway of 313 Bozrah Road to pick up a client on the morning of Oct. 30.
He said the next thing he remembered was that his van was hit in the passenger side rear.
The autopsy report for Wood found no drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.
Test results for Adekoya also showed no drugs or alcohol.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Construction Squad found in their investigation that Adekoya had a clear line of sight and made an improper left turn in front of Wood.
Wood also had been traveling between 46 and 59 miles per hour on the 45-mph highway.
The application said there were no adverse conditions at the time of the crash and neither vehicle showed signs of a malfunction that contributed to the crash.
Adekoya is scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on June 7.
