Police: Speed, improperly secured coiled steel contributed to New London rollover
New London — The ramp connecting state Route 32 to North Frontage Road and Interstate 95 south was closed for four hours Tuesday after a tractor-trailer carrying coiled steel failed to negotiate its curve, police said.
The crash occurred at 3:23 p.m.
The driver of the Crest Services-owned truck, identified by police as Paul Decrisanti, 59, of Waterbury, was charged with traveling unreasonably fast.
Police said the truck was carrying 78,000 pounds of coiled steel that Decrisanti had just picked up from State Pier.
A state Department of Motor Vehicles Commercial Safety Division official who responded to the scene determined the load was not properly secured, according to police.
The ramp reopened to traffic at 7:34 p.m. Tuesday.
