Police: Ledyard woman facing more charges after hitting EMT, breaking cruiser window
Ledyard — The local woman who police said broke a police cruiser window, hit an emergency medical technician and ran away from the emergency room two weeks ago was arrested Wednesday on a warrant stemming from that incident, according to police.
Heather R. Kelley, 39, of 120 Gallup Hill Road was charged with assault on emergency medical personnel and breach of peace.
Police on June 14 had responded to 120 Gallup Hill Road, Unit 10B, for a noise complaint when they found Kelley allegedly acting intoxicated and aggressive toward her mother.
She was cited with creating a public disturbance at the time, and police determined she needed medical attention.
As crews transferred Kelley to an ambulance, however, police said she used her left forearm to hit an emergency medical technician in the face, bruising the technician's left cheekbone.
An officer then proceeded to take Kelley to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, police said.
During the ride, she allegedly broke the cruiser's rear window and slammed her handcuffs around inside the vehicle.
At the hospital, Kelley was restrained but somehow evaded hospital security and escaped on foot, according to police.
Police said Kelley, who had been at the beach that day, was wearing only a bikini swimsuit as she ran down Montauk Avenue.
Kelley was on the run for about 10 minutes before Ledyard police, with assistance from New London police, captured her.
Kelley, who was released from custody after posting a $5,000 nonsurety bond, is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court July 13.
