Voluntown – State police said a 37-year-old Jewett City man died Thursday after his motorcycle struck a deer and several cars during a crash on Route 138.

At about 5:09 a.m. police said Peter Kozlowski, 37, of Glasgo Road, Lot 202, in Jewett City was traveling east on Route 138 in Voluntown when he struck a deer in the area of the intersection of Route 165.

Police said Kozlowski lost control of his motorcycle after hitting the deer and crossed into the opposite lane, where he struck two different westbound vehicles.

First responders pronounced Kozlowski dead at the scene.

The drivers of the two involved vehicles — Mary A. Ketchel, 53, of Warwick, R.I., and Sherrie L. Whitford, 39, of Exeter, R.I. — were not injured.

Route 138 was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash. Any witnesses are asked to contact state police Trooper Lewis at (860) 848-6500, ext. 5132.
